Description
Macro close up of a Great Spangled Fritillary Butterfly Speyeria cybele; aka silverspots, in profile with backlit wings, pollinating a purple coneflower, Echinacea purpurea, taken at the native plant garden near the entrance to Rockefeller State Park Preserve in Westchester County, New York.
I find butterflies endlessly fascinating and the park is a mecca for these and other butterflies that are native to New York.
The golden orange and black fritillary butterfly is also known as silverspots since, in addition to the pattern of black spots and dashes on its wings, it has some silver spots on its hindwings.
