Description
When I awoke at 4:30 AM to catch the sunrise on a cruise ship heading back to Stockholm in late August some years back, it was still the white nights of summer. Strange and beautiful light as the ship cruised though the Stockholm Archipelago, a collection of over 2,000 islands and islets in Baltic Sea along the Swedish coast.
You can see here that the mist is starting to clear and just the faintest hint of color is reflected in the water. Soon it would be a bright orange sunrise, but this image with its gentle hint of pastel colors speaks to me of the peace before the day even began. A calming image to soothe your soul during your early morning workout, or any time of day when the hectic pace of modern life becomes too much.
These sailboats and other pleasure craft are moored along the coastline of Bammarboda, a seaside town on the Swedish coast and a popular Scandinavian summer holiday vacation and recreation area, one I hope to visit some day. I saw so many islands and towns (and lighthouses - a favorite of mine) from the deck of the cruise ship and I hope to actually visit some of the charming seaside villages in the future.
A few of the towns had signs and I was able to trace my route on a map by finding various landmarks among my photos and ordering them chronologically, but it took a long time to figure out where many of my photos were taken since I did not have GPS at the time. I always do so much research before a trip, but I seem to do twice as much after I get home. The beauty of this area had me wanting to return as soon as we got back to Stockholm (a gorgeous place itself), but as I researched the archipelago I yearned to go back even more.
