Artist's Description
Wonderful wooden texture and charming old barns, Watters Smith Memorial State Park, Lost Creek, West Virginia in Harrison County.
Trying to find our way down winding country lanes, our GPS simply said "road" as we approached Watters Smith Memorial State Park, in a town called, poetically, Lost Creek, West Virginia. Glad we kept our sense of adventure and followed along since these barns were well worth the trip.
The weathered wooden planks and even the newly repaired surfaces on the barns and other historic pioneer buildings were full of the detail and charm that I was seeking. With two cameras and a bag of lenses, I was lost in my own little world as the white winter sun played across the surface of the wood, challenging me to concentrate on shape and texture.
Part of a series in black and white.

About Marianne Campolongo
I have been hooked on photography since age six when my grandmother, returning from a trip to Egypt, passed on her well-traveled Kodak Brownie camera as well as her wanderlust. My work has been shown in galleries throughout the New York metropolitan area, including at the Museum of the City of New York and hang in the collections of private, institutional and corporate collectors. They have been published in Smithsonian and Coastal Living magazines, in The Guardian newspaper, in books published by National Geographic, Fodors, DK and Workman Publishing and in dozens of other...
