Description
Memorial statue of Barbaro, winner of six races including the 2006 Kentucky Derby, with jockey Edgar Prado, by Kentucky artist Alexa King, outside the Kentucky Derby Museum.
A memorial to the horse, who shattered his leg in the Preakness and fought to overcome the injury for a year, Barbaro’s ashes are buried beneath it.
The Kentucky Derby is run in Louisville each May, drawing crowds from around the world. Thanks to its unique location, Louisville is considered both the southernmost midwestern city and the northernmost southern city in the US, making it part of both the South and the Midwest.
