Beautiful red stylized Japanese tree peony, Paeonia suffruticosa, aka Mouton Peony. This has a vintage yet contemporary feel and would be at home in both a traditional or a modern setting.
I have created a similar image in blue and white as well as a pink and green multicolored version since I was happy with the various experiments in my digital darkroom.
I took the underlying photograph at the Peony Monument at Rockefeller State Park Preserve in Westchester County NY, a stunningly beautiful gift from Japan after 9/11.
I think the red would even make a pretty non-traditional Christmas or holiday card and would also be a lovely card for Valentines Day.
