Description
The Twin Lights Lighthouse, also known as the Navesink Lightstation, is located on the Navesink Highlands in Highlands, New Jersey, USA. The lights protected the coastal waters of New York Harbor and northern New Jersey. The current lighthouse, designed by architect Joseph Lederle with two non-identical towers linked by keepers quarters and storage rooms, was built from local brownstone in 1862, replacing earlier buildings. Along with different sized towers, one tower light was fixed and the other tower had a flashing light, making the structure easy for seafarers to identify. Marconi demonstrated his wireless telegraph here in 1899.
