Artist's Description

The Lighthouse on Roosevelt Island, New York, NY. Designed by engineer and self-trained architect James Renwick, Jr., the Gothic style octagonal stone lighthouse was completed in 1873. It was built with gray gneiss quarried on the island mostly by convict labor from the penitentiary there.
