Description
The Coffee Pot, a restaurant designed and built in 1927 by Bert Koontz along the Lincoln Highway, Bedford, Pennsylvania, USA. It is an example of programmatic architecture, whimsical structures built in the likeness of oversized objects to attract motorists. In an effort at historic preservation, The Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor moved the historic structure, a fine example of Americana, to a new location in the same town and restored it in 2004.
Bedford, PA is a great American small town. My husband and I discovered the town when we were looking for gluten free food options and found a great little cafe, not far from the victor's bureau where we discovered a list of fun places to visit, including this architectural gem. Bedford, PA is a good stopping point on our way out from New York to visit our daughter in the midwest, and since then we have stayed there a few times, taking an extra day so I can explore the countryside and shoot photographs. It was tough to find this little gem the first time, we kept driving in the wrong direction, but it was well worth the trek when we finally discovered it. I love these quirky fun finds! A perfect image to hang in a kitchen or coffee shop, don't you think. I have a horizontal version too.
