For those of you into camera equipment, I took this photograph with my mirrorless Olympus OMD E-1 but I did not have a dedicated macro lens for that camera at the time. Having left my heavy Nikons and 105mm macro lens behind, I was still able to achieve this macro image using a light and inexpensive bit of kit that I often rely on for travel.
When I bought my first Nikon DSLR back in 2005, I discovered the Nikon 2 and 4T step-up filters - they are screw on lenses not much thicker than a filter and they magnify your lens. They have around a 50mm thread, and you can use a step up or step down ring so they will fit on other lenses that are close to that size, with say a 48-55mm thread. The beauty of these filters is that you do not need to use them on a Nikon lens or with a Nikon camera.
I attached one of the filters to my Olympus 40-75mm lens and, as you can see, the depth of field is nice and shallow and the bokeh (that's the out of focus area behind the flower and butterfly) is beautifully smooth. This photo is minimally processed out of the camera with no cropping.
I really love the little mirrorless Olympus and have since sold all my Nikon cameras and added a 42MP mirrorless Sony A7rii to my arsenal, along with a dedicated 90mm macro lens. I love that lens both for close up work and for portraits, but it is large and heavy. So, when I want to travel light, I use the step up filters on lenses for both of my camera systems. They are one of the best pieces of kit I have picked up in the past 12 years and I nearly always have them in my bag.
