Description
It was a cold southern winter as we drove across West Virginia. Trying to find our way down winding country lanes, our GPS simply said "road" as we approached Watters Smith Memorial State Park, in a town called, appropriately, Lost Creek, West Virginia. This gem was worth the trip. The weathered wooden planks and newly repaired surfaces on the barns and other historic pioneer buildings were full of the detail and charm that I was seeking. With two cameras and a bag of lenses, I was lost in my own little world as I scoped out the bleak yet beautiful landscape through my viewfinder. In spring it would be teeming with school children, the softly rolling hills dotted with wildflowers, but now the white winter sun played across the surface of the wood, challenging me to concentrate on shape and texture. Here is the first in my series, named, you guessed it, Lost Creek Barns.
