Description
Part of my Lost Creek Barns series.
Here is the story behind the photographs:
Trying to find our way down winding country lanes in West Virginia on a cold January day, our GPS simply said "road." But we still found Watters Smith Memorial State Park, in a town called, appropriately, Lost Creek, West Virginia. The wonderful old barns on the property were worth the trip. The weathered wooden planks and newly repaired surfaces on the historic pioneer buildings were full of the detail and charm that I was seeking on the drive through the winter countryside.
With two cameras and a bag of lenses, I was lost in my own little world as I scoped out the beautiful winter landscape through my viewfinder. In spring it would be teeming with school children visiting this historic site that captures the pioneer spirit, the softly rolling hills dotted with wildflowers, but now the white winter sun played across the surface of the wood, challenging me to concentrate on shape and texture.
This image and some others in the series are also available in color. If you have any questions put "Lost Creek Barn" in the subject of your email. Email me here or mariannecampolongo@mac.com
