Castle Hill Lighthouse at twilight during the blue hour just before sunset, Newport, Rhode Island, USA. The beautiful granite tower, completed in 1890, is built right into the cliff face.
The original beacon was a kerosene-powered fifth-order Fresnel lens, which was replaced in 1899, and again in 1957 by the current modern plastic lens when the last lighthouse keeper left and Castle Hill light was automated in 1957. With its red beacon, Castle Hill light house is still an active navigational aids for ships in Narragansett Bay heading toward Providence and Newport, RI.
The lighthouse stands on land sold to the United States government for $1.00. Although the tower is not open to the public, you may walk right up to it across the cliffs via paths from the Castle Hill Inn, a lovely bed and breakfast with a charming restaurant nearby, and approach the seaside via a steep stairway.
This nautical image is ideal for home decor, office, lobby or waiting room. Great...

They have been published in Smithsonian and Coastal Living magazines, in The Guardian newspaper, in books published by National Geographic, Fodors, DK and Workman Publishing and in dozens of other...
