Description
A backlit male Great Spangled Fritillary Butterfly, Speyeria cybele; aka silverspots, pollinates an eastern purple coneflower, Echinacea purpurea. A joyful summer sight at Rockefeller State Park Preserve in Westchester County, New York.
In July as the echinacea bloom, the entrance to the park comes alive with butterflies. Sometimes they flit away too quickly to get a photograph and other times they seem to just pose for you. I feel so lucky to live so close to the park and all the natural wonders there.
