Description
A saltwater marsh in Niantic, East Lyme, Connecticut, USA, known to residents as the backwaters, is a nesting ground for ospreys as well as a popular spot for boating and other water sports. Once an endangered species, in the 1970’s after DDT was banned and nesting platforms were built in osprey habitats (one can bee seen near the horizon at left), the osprey population began to recover and these birds of prey are no longer endangered in Connecticut.
