Description
A male Mallard duck ( Anas platyrhynchos ) swims in Baltimore Inner Harbor, Baltimore, Maryland in the early morning on a spring day. The Mallard, a wild duck, is part of the classification known as dabbling ducks. Mallards are native to the Americas, Europe, Asia, and North Africa; they have been introduced to New Zealand and Australia. This black and white fine art image would look lovely in the home, office or den of a wildlife enthusiast.
I've called this image "Mr. Mallard" after a favorite children's book that I enjoyed as a child and which a friend gave to my own daughter as a gift when she visited me in the maternity ward. One of my daughter's earliest books and one of her favorites, "Make Way for Ducklings" written and illustrated by Robert McCloskey, tells the story of a family of ducks in Boston, Massachusetts. When my daughter was young, she always loved to feed the ducks near our home in the New York suburbs, and the book about Mr. & Mrs. Mallard and their children was one of her favorite bedtime stories. First published in 1941 and winner of the 1942 Caldecott medal, this wonderful picture book is still in print and I recommend it as an essential part of any young child's library.
I'm working on a very colorful version of this image that would be ideal for a child's room.
